May 26, 2010 – Midway Welcomes New Airport Dining Concept

Sarfatty Associates recently completed a new concept in contemporary airport dining at Midway International Airport for Midway Airport Concession. The first of its kind in airport dining, Sprigs is a fresh, contemporary, salad concept that offers customers a variety of healthy choices. The Sprigs Concourse B location at Midway was built with sustainable design elements including bamboo.

"We are constantly looking for ways to enhance Chicago's airports by providing new and exciting dining and retail options for travelers," said Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. "This new business not only adds more flavor and healthy choices to our concessions program, it also creates new job opportunities."

The CDA's internationally recognized green airport initiatives continue to expand into all of the functions of Chicago's airports - including concessions. All new airport restaurants and shops must be designed and built in accordance with the guidelines of the CDA Sustainable Airport Manual. The restaurants at O'Hare and Midway are also incorporating sustainability into their everyday operations by recycling materials such as cooking oils and packaging, and utilizing energy efficient equipment.

Sarfatty Associates had previously completed Lalo's, Reilly's Daughter, Miller Pub, Pegasus and other retail/food service projects at Midway International Airport.

Sep 2, 2009 – Paciugo Gelato Caffe opens its first store in Chicago, IL

Sarfatty Associates is pleased to announce the opening of Paciugo Gelato’s first store here in the Chicagoland area. The store located at 3241 North Broadway is the first store for Anirudh Poddar, the Chicago master franchiser. Mr. Poddar has expressed his excitement about the new store design and how well it is being received in the neighborhood. Working closely with the Paciugo design team, Sarfatty Associates was able to take a typical Chicago neighborhood street storefront and develop it in a manner that provides street presence for the brand and a dynamic space for the gathering of Paciugo’s patrons. Just like the food being offered, the store design and development is a blend of the traditions of the past with trends and technology of today. Congratulations Ani!

June 2009 - Camp Ramah in Wisconsin opens its new Dining and Kitchen Facility

After nearly four years of careful planning and creative design, Camp Ramah in Wisconsin started construction on their single largest project – a 23,000 S.F. dining and kitchen facility built on the site of the existing facility it replaces. This required that the existing building be demolished as soon as the 2008 camp season ended and the new building be constructed through the cold snowy winter months in order to be completed in time for the 2009 camp season. The structure and finishes are predominately comprised of wood or other natural materials. Each of the three equally sized dining rooms accommodates up to 300 persons, has expansive operable windows for light/ventilation, open cathedral ceilings, a special acoustical treatment to minimize noise and an energy conscious ventilation system that provides maximum comfort without air conditioning. Specially color coded floors and fascias to designate the separate “meat” and “dairy” portions of the kitchen. A deep covered porch wraps around the building which provides shading from the sun and a place to meet and relax. A 26,000 gallon reservoir was built under the building to provide water for the full fire protection sprinkler system because wells do not provide sufficient volume for this type of high demand system. Other infrastructure upgrades include an enlarged septic system with a lift station, new electrical service and conversion from propane to a natural gas service, all of which were a challenge to accomplish in this remote "Northwoods" location. Oct 5, 2007 - Sarfatty Associates awarded Historic Annapolis Foundation 'Community Preservation Award'

Sarfatty Associates was awarded the Community Preservation Award by the Historic Annapolis Foundation for the Starbucks Coffee Shop build-out within the Historic Inns of Annapolis Hotel owned by Remington Hotel Corporation. The award was made in recognition of Sarfatty Associates' retrofit design of the space making it compliant with all accessibility codes without distubing the historic fabric of the building's facade and interiors. Accessibility concerns required the addition of a wheelchair lift on the exterior to provide access to the cafe on the lower level. The design preserved the exposed ashlar masonry walls on the interior and replaced filled-in openings with custom windows replicating designs from the original building among other carefully crafted details to blend new and old. ∞ Link
